Hello crafty friends!
Today’s project is all about dimension, elegance, and a pop of soft florals. I’m sharing a heartfelt thank you card using the Delicate Magnolia Layering Die Set from Altenew—a must-have if you’re a fan of realistic floral die cuts and clean, modern card design.
Why you’ll love the Delicate Magnolia Layering Die Set
The Delicate Magnolia Layering Die Set offers everything you could want in a floral die set. Each die layer is thoughtfully designed to bring the iconic magnolia flower to life with beautiful detail. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned cardmaker, you’ll appreciate the way the pieces effortlessly build a realistic bloom that feels hand-painted and refined.

Perfect for colouring with your favourite mediums or cutting from coloured cardstock, these dies are ideal for year-round crafting. Plus, the magnolia’s large scale means it makes a real statement—no need to add much more to your card front!
There are layering dies, and then there are Altenew layering dies. This set offers excellent versatility for thank you cards, sympathy cards, birthdays, and so much more. You can play with colours, textures, and finishes for completely different looks—think vellum layers, ombré petals, or even foiled accents.
With so many possibilities, it’s a set that keeps on giving. If you love floral designs but want something that’s just as impactful on a clean layout as it is on a more detailed background, this is the one to grab.
Card Inspiration – Delicate Thanks

For this card, I wanted the magnolias to take centre stage while keeping everything else clean and simple. I built up the flowers using the Delicate Magnolia Layering Die Set, adding soft colouring with alcohol markers for that gentle petal blend. Here’s how it came together:
- Create your base – Start with a navy blue card base to provide rich contrast for your floral arrangement.
- Layer your panels – Add a slightly smaller panel of the same navy cardstock with foam tape for dimension. Then adhere a white cardstock panel at an angle on top.
- Die cut the florals – Use the Delicate Magnolia Layering Dies to cut your petals, leaves, and flower centres. I coloured mine with alcohol markers in soft pinks and yellows, with muted green for the leaves.
- Assemble the flowers – Layer the die cuts using liquid glue, slightly curling the petal edges for added realism.
- Position the florals – Arrange the magnolias so they sit just below the sentiment. Tuck in the leaves for balance.
- Add a sentiment – Stamp and cut out a simple “Thank You” sentiment and adhere it across the flowers.
- Embellish – Finish with a few water droplets, a splatter of white gouache, and a natural twine bow for added texture.
This layout proves you don’t need complex techniques to make a big impact—sometimes it’s all about letting the florals do the talking.
