How are we all this fine Tuesday? Isn’t the weather amazing in the UK at the moment, I wish I could say I was making the most of it, however between being in the office and the planting of seeds in the garden. It’s all fun and games until but I’m not the most green fingered person so I tend to leave that stuff to Sean.
I sometimes feel that with simpler cards it hard to speak about because of the simplicity of the design. This being said there is a thought process that happens to make cards which have simple designs. Taking the card as an example I’m wanted to play on space and how it is filled as well as colour contrast. Starting with the play with space, you’ll see from this card that there a lot of empty space around the centre point. This helps focus your focus to this point. This also contrasts to the busy filled up center point. A lot of happening inside the Blushing Bride circle, with the floral design and sentiment. Considering space is so important with your designs especially for simple and graphic cards such as this.
I briefly touch upon colour and it’s importance earlier, I personally only try to use three colours in each of my designs unless of course the colour is the focal point. The reason for this is that you want the colours to sit in harmony together than each fighting for the light. Today’s card uses the three colour rule; Smoky Slate, Blushing Bride and Whisper White. You might ask why I’m not accounting for the black stamped image; this is a great debate among designers however I don’t account it as a colour. Here’s why; black is used to absorb colour and is described as the absence of colour. Therefore this just doesn’t count and is why you’ll see me use black primarily for sentiments.
That’s all the technique stuff over with, I’m using the Forst Frost Stamp Set that was originally available in the Autumn/Winter Catalogue however has been carried over, this means it’s still available. You still have time to get it!
Well I’m busy getting ready for the new Stamping Society post that will be heading out to all subscribers, order placers and to my down line. I’m super excited to share my card and really hope all of you who receive it like it too. I’ve already see some of the other projects and I can’t wait to use there work to influence my designs.
