Create an Elegant Blue Floral Card with Altenew’s Nostalgic Florals Bundle

Today I’m sharing a floral card featuring the beautiful Nostalgic Florals Bundle from Altenew. I absolutely love a floral design, but I think it is the deeper blue background on this card that really makes those soft blue flowers and fresh green leaves come to life.

Rather than keeping everything light and airy, I went for a slightly moodier colour palette, layering the florals over coordinating blue cardstock and adding plenty of darker foliage around them. A few little splatters, sequins and that loose twine detail finish everything off without taking attention away from those gorgeous flowers.

Card Inspiration – Thinking of You Floral Card

For this card, I wanted the florals to feel soft and almost painterly while still having plenty of contrast against the darker background. The combination of periwinkle blues and fresh greens really pops against the deep blue cardstock, while the additional blue-on-blue foliage fills out the arrangement without making it feel too busy.

I also allowed some of the leaves and flowers to extend beyond the raised panel. It is a really simple trick, but it helps the arrangement feel much larger and gives the whole card a lovely sense of movement.

1. Create a top-folding card base from deep blue cardstock and cut a slightly smaller panel from the same cardstock. Add this panel to the card using foam adhesive to create some subtle dimension.
2. Stamp the floral images from the Nostalgic Florals Stamp Set onto smooth white cardstock.
3. Use the coordinating stencils to add colour to the flowers and leaves. I chose soft blue and periwinkle shades for the flowers, building up deeper colour towards the centres, with fresh greens for the foliage.
4. Die cut the coloured flowers and leaves using the coordinating dies.
5. Stamp some additional foliage directly onto deep blue cardstock using a darker coordinating blue ink, then die cut these pieces. Keeping these leaves tone-on-tone adds extra fullness to the arrangement without competing with the coloured florals.
6. Begin arranging the flowers and foliage over the card front, starting with the larger floral image and working outwards. Allow some of the elements to overlap the edge of the raised panel to create a more organic design.
7. Once you are happy with the arrangement, adhere the pieces using a mixture of liquid adhesive and foam adhesive. Using different depths of adhesive helps to separate the layers and adds even more dimension.
8. Add some loose natural twine across the floral arrangement, allowing it to curl and loop naturally rather than trying to make it too perfect.
9. Stamp the Thinking of You sentiment and add it towards the lower right-hand side of the floral cluster using foam adhesive.
10. Finish the card with a scattering of clear sequins and small white paint splatters across the background and florals.

I really love how all those little finishing details work against the darker cardstock. The splatters break up the large areas of blue while the sequins catch the light without overpowering the floral arrangement.
