Hello crafty friends!
Today’s card is all about showing just how much fun you can have with the new OLO Fine Nib Markers. I used the Simon Says Stamp Luna Flower Wafer Dies for the floral focal point, but the real star of this project is that bright, hand-drawn plaid background.
The OLO Fine Nib Markers are currently available to preorder as part of a crowd-funded campaign, which means they need enough support before they go into production. If you have been thinking about adding a finer nib option to your OLO collection, now is such an important time to reserve yours and help bring them to life.
Why you’ll love the OLO Fine Nib Markers
256 Color Fine Nib Set
Reserve All 256 MarkersThe OLO Fine Nib Markers open up so many extra possibilities, especially for card makers who love adding handmade details to their projects. The finer tip gives you more control than a standard marker nib, making it ideal for small areas, fine lines, hand-drawn patterns, and decorative details.
On this card, I used the fine nibs to build a bright plaid-style background. By layering different coloured lines, changing the thickness, and allowing the colours to overlap, you get a really fun custom pattern that feels completely unique.
They are also a brilliant way to get even more from your existing OLO colours. Instead of only using your markers for colouring stamped images, the fine nibs allow you to create backgrounds, add accents, draw borders, highlight details, and create graphic patterns.
The preorder is also a great opportunity because reserving now helps support the campaign and brings the Fine Nib Markers one step closer to production. Plus, if you reserve during the campaign, you can unlock lifetime access to 10% off, which is such a lovely bonus if OLO is already part of your crafty stash.
Card Inspiration: Sending Warm Hugs Plaid Floral Card

I absolutely love the contrast on this card. The background is bright, playful, and full of colour, while the white die-cut Luna flowers keep everything clean and fresh. Adding a bold black sentiment over the top helps ground the design and makes sure the card still has a strong focal point.
The fine nib background is also a great reminder that you do not always need patterned paper. Sometimes, your markers can do all the heavy lifting and create something completely bespoke.
Step-by-step instructions
- Start by cutting a white card base and a slightly smaller white panel for the front of your card.
- Using the OLO Fine Nib Markers, begin drawing vertical and horizontal lines across the white panel. Vary the spacing between the lines to create a relaxed plaid effect.
- Add wider blocks of colour in some areas by repeatedly colouring beside the original line. This helps create that bold, overlapping plaid look.
- Continue adding different colours, allowing some of the lines to cross over each other. The layered colour gives the background extra interest and makes the pattern feel more dimensional.
- Once the background is complete, add a few thin black lines to bring in contrast and help define the plaid design.
- Add a small amount of black splatter across the panel for extra texture.
- Die cut the Simon Says Stamp Luna Flower Wafer Dies from white cardstock. Keep the flowers white so they stand out beautifully against the colourful background.
- Arrange the die-cut flowers over the lower section of the panel, layering them until you are happy with the composition.
- Die cut or prepare your sentiment using black cardstock with a white shadow layer, then adhere it over the flowers.
- Finish the card with a few clear sequins for a little shine without taking attention away from the background.
