Hello crafty friends!
If you’ve been wondering whether you really need dozens of colours to create beautiful blends, today’s card is here to prove otherwise! This floral thank you card was created using just six OLO Fine Nib Marker colours, and I absolutely love how vibrant and dimensional the finished flowers look.
I’ve been having so much fun creating projects for the launch of the new OLO Fine Nib Markers, and one of the biggest questions I’ve been asked is whether a limited colour palette can still produce impressive results. The answer is a definite yes! By layering colours and taking advantage of OLO’s incredibly smooth ink, it’s easy to create depth, contrast and seamless blends with only a handful of markers.
If you haven’t already seen it, be sure to check out my reel where I challenged myself to colour this entire card using just six Fine Nib markers!

For this design, I wanted the flowers to be the star of the show. I paired the bright orange florals with a soft ink blended blue background, adding a stitched cover plate die for subtle texture without competing with the colouring. The clean sentiment strips finish the design perfectly while allowing the colouring to take centre stage.
Using only six colours also demonstrates just how far you can stretch your marker collection. Rather than relying on lots of different shades, I built colour gradually by layering and blending, which is exactly where the OLO Fine Nibs really shine.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Stamp the large floral images onto alcohol marker-friendly cardstock using a Copic-safe black ink.
- Colour all of the images using just six OLO Fine Nib Marker colours, building darker areas through layering rather than adding additional colours.
- Add white gel pen highlights across the petals to create extra interest and dimension.
- Fussy cut the coloured images using the coordinating dies.
- Ink blend a soft blue panel for the background.
- Die cut a stitched cover plate from matching blue cardstock and adhere it over the ink blended panel using foam adhesive for extra depth.
- Arrange the floral clusters around the edges of the card, trimming any overhanging pieces flush with the card base.
- Stamp and trim the sentiment into individual strips before adhering with foam tape.
- Finish with a few splatters of white paint for added texture and contrast.
