Hello crafty friends!
If you love bold florals, rich colours and layered dimension, today’s card is going to be right up your street. I’ve created this richly detailed “I’m Truly Grateful” card using the Ornamental Poppies Layering Die Set from Altenew, and honestly… this set does so much of the hard work for you.
The depth, the movement, the drama against that dark background — it’s one of those designs that looks intricate and time-consuming, but comes together beautifully thanks to the clever layering system. If your affiliate basket needs a little encouragement (mine certainly does!), this is a die set that absolutely earns its place in your craft room.
Why You’ll Love the Ornamental Poppies Layering Die Set
The Ornamental Poppies Layering Die Set is one of those sets that instantly feels premium. Here’s why I keep reaching for it:
- Gorgeous Layered Detail – Each petal layer adds natural shaping and realistic dimension without needing complicated colouring.
- Perfect for Seasonal Colour Palettes – From soft pastels to bold autumn tones like I’ve used here, it adapts effortlessly.
- Large Focal Coverage – You can fill an entire A2 card front with ease.
- Versatile Sentiment Pairing – It works beautifully for thank you, sympathy, encouragement or even birthday cards.
- Die-Cutting Instead of Colouring – Ideal if you love dimension but don’t always want to reach for markers.
If you enjoy building florals piece by piece and watching them come to life, this set is incredibly satisfying to use.
Card Inspiration – Truly Grateful Autumn Poppies

For this project, I wanted a rich, almost moody autumn feel. The deep brown background really allows the warm peach and rust tones to glow, while the layered greenery creates movement across the entire panel.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cut an A2 card base (4¼ x 5½ inches). I chose a deep brown cardstock for a dramatic background.
- Using the Ornamental Poppies Layering Die Set, die cut:
- Multiple poppy layers in warm peach and soft yellow tones
- Rust and deep terracotta tones for contrast
- Various green shades for the foliage
- Assemble each poppy using liquid adhesive, slightly offsetting layers to enhance depth. You can gently shape the petals with your fingers for added dimension.
- Before gluing anything down, lay out your florals and foliage across the card front.
Tip: Let leaves extend off the edges for a full-bleed look. - Once happy with placement, adhere everything using a mix of liquid glue and foam adhesive for added dimension.
- Lightly splatter diluted white paint for subtle texture and movement.
- I used a coordinating sentiment strip reading “I’m Truly Grateful” to keep the focus on the florals. Mount it with foam adhesive for lift.
- Add clear embellishments or gems across the design for sparkle and cohesion.
The result is a rich, layered card that feels detailed and luxurious without complicated techniques.
