Card Inspiration – Desertscape Friend Card

For this card, I wanted to create a soft, dreamy sunset against a rich desert landscape. The idea was to play with contrast: delicate ink blending in the sky paired with bold, deep green cacti and a strong pop of red in the sentiment.
Step-by-step instructions:
- Create the sky:
Start by ink blending a soft desert sunset using Concord & 9th Premium Dye Inks. I used light pinks and peaches like Nectar, blending into dusky blues for that early evening glow. Speckle with gold splatters for stars. - Die cut your shapes:
Using the Desertscape dies, cut your mesa rock formation from rust or terracotta cardstock. Cut the cacti from a deep green and use foam tape to layer them for added depth. Add gold highlights with a paint pen or metallic splatters for detail. - Frame the scene:
Use a rounded arch die or stencil to create the scene’s window, giving the whole panel a polished look. Layer this onto a light grey or neutral card base. - Add sentiment and embellishments:
The sentiment “FRIEND” is heat embossed in white on a bold red strip to stand out. Finish with sequins and a simple bow of twine for texture. - Assemble:
Adhere all layers with foam tape to create dimension, ensuring your tallest cactus slightly overlaps the window for that immersive feel.
