Hello crafty friends!
Today I’m sharing a bold floral card created with the stunning Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set from Altenew — and I’m so excited that this beautiful set is finally back in stock! If you love dimensional florals and relaxing die-cutting sessions, this one is definitely worth adding to your collection.
For this card, I paired rich navy cardstock with vibrant pink ink blending to really make those dahlias pop from the background. The contrast between the dramatic card base and the soft floral tones creates such an elegant finish, while the layered leaves bring in that perfect fresh pop of green.
Why You’ll Love the Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set
The Craft-A-Flower series from Altenew is always a favourite of mine, and this Grand Dahlia set is no exception. The layering is incredibly easy to follow, making it suitable for both experienced die-cutters and anyone just getting started with layered floral designs.
What I really love about this set is how versatile it is. You can create bold, dramatic florals like I have here, or switch up the colours completely for softer seasonal looks. The detailed petal layers create so much depth and dimension with very little effort, and the coordinating leaves help build beautiful arrangements effortlessly.
Another huge bonus is how well this die set works with ink blending. I used vibrant pink tones blended from the centre of the petals outward to create that realistic floral depth, while the leaves were blended using fresh green tones for contrast.
Card Inspiration – Elegant Layered Dahlia Card

For this project, I wanted the flowers to feel like they were almost glowing against the dark navy background. The deep cardstock really helps intensify the pink tones, making the florals become the focal point immediately.
I also added white ink splatter across the card for extra texture and movement, along with a few sequins to catch the light. The twine tucked behind the flowers softens the overall design and adds a little extra detail without overwhelming the card.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Create an A2 card base using dark navy cardstock and cut a slightly smaller navy panel for the front layer.
- Die cut all of the floral and leaf pieces from white cardstock using the Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set.
- Ink blend the flower layers using pink inks, concentrating the darker shades towards the centre of each petal and fading outward for a soft blended effect.
- Ink blend the leaf layers using green inks to create depth and definition.
- Assemble the flowers following the layering guide included with the die set.
- Adhere the navy panel onto the card front using foam adhesive for dimension.
- Arrange and adhere the leaves first, then layer the dahlias on top using a mixture of liquid glue and foam adhesive.
- Add a few strands of twine behind the floral arrangement for added texture.
- Splatter white ink across the card front for extra detail.
- Finish the card with a sentiment strip and a few sequins for sparkle.
