Hello crafty friends!
Today I’m sharing a soft and elegant floral card created with the beautiful Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set from Altenew. I absolutely love how versatile this die set is — whether you want bold dramatic florals or something soft and delicate like today’s project, it really delivers every time.
For this card, I went with a fresh spring-inspired colour palette featuring soft yellows, peaches, and warm oranges layered against a pale mint background. The embossed texture and subtle ink blending give the whole design a dreamy, dimensional finish that feels elegant without being overly complicated.
Why You’ll Love the Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set
The Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set is one of those products that instantly makes your cards look detailed and impressive with very little effort. The layering pieces line up beautifully and allow you to create realistic floral depth with cardstock and ink blending alone.
Here’s why I think this set is a must-have for floral card makers:
- Creates gorgeous dimensional flowers with ease
- Works beautifully with plain cardstock or ink blending
- Perfect for all-season card making
- Looks stunning on clean and simple or heavily layered designs
- Mix and match the flower layers for endless colour combinations
- Great for sympathy, thank you, friendship, and encouragement cards
The flowers also pair beautifully with embossing folders, sentiment strips, and background textures, making it incredibly versatile for your stash.
Card Inspiration – Soft Layered Dahlia Card

For today’s card, I wanted the florals to be the main focal point while keeping the overall design soft and elegant. The pale mint background combined with the embossed panel creates just enough texture without competing with the flowers.
The different ink-blended blooms help move your eye around the card, while the vellum-style circle element behind the sentiment helps break up the layers and adds a softer finishing touch. I also added some white ink splatter details for extra interest and a slightly artistic feel.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Create an A2 card base using pale mint cardstock.
- Emboss a smaller panel of matching cardstock using a detailed embossing folder and adhere it to the card front.
- Die cut all the floral and leaf layers from white cardstock using the Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set.
- Ink blend the flower layers using yellow, peach, coral, and orange inks to create soft gradients.
- Blend the leaf layers with light and medium green inks for added depth.
- Assemble all the floral layers using liquid adhesive or foam tape for dimension.
- Add a vellum or soft grey circular element behind the florals to help frame the sentiment area.
- Arrange and adhere the flowers and leaves around the circle, allowing some elements to hang off the edges for a natural composition.
- Add a sentiment using small sentiment strips.
- Finish with white ink splatter and a few clear embellishments for extra detail.
