Hello crafty friends!
Today I’m sharing a card that definitely made me laugh while creating it! This project was made using the fabulous Concord & 9th Icing on the Cake Bundle and I wanted to lean fully into a playful cartoon-style cake design with bold colours, layered details, and a sentiment that feels just a little bit cheeky.
One of my favourite things about this bundle is how customisable it is. You can create elegant celebration cakes, bright birthday designs, or something completely tongue-in-cheek like this one. I originally wanted to make the cake sentiment even more questionable, but I behaved… mostly! Thankfully, the alphabet dies in the bundle let you personalise your projects however you like, making every card feel unique.
Why You’ll Love the Icing on the Cake Bundle
The Icing on the Cake Bundle from Concord & 9th is packed with possibilities for card makers who love interactive and highly customisable designs.
Here’s why I think this bundle is such a standout:
- The layering dies create the perfect dimensional cake effect
- You can completely customise the sentiments with the included alphabet dies
- It works beautifully for birthdays, celebrations, weddings, and humorous cards
- The bold shapes make it ideal for bright, modern colour palettes
- It’s perfect for creating statement focal points on clean and simple cards
I also love how easy it is to switch the mood of the design simply by changing the colours and wording. This version feels playful and cartoon-inspired, but the same layout could easily become elegant and sophisticated with softer tones.
Card Inspiration – Cartoon Cake Birthday Card

For this card, I really wanted the design to feel like a stylised cartoon cake topper. The bold black sentiment against the soft pink centre gives it that graphic look, while the bright florals help frame the design and keep it fun.
The circular card base also helps sell the illusion of an actual cake, especially with the decorative gold border acting like piped icing around the edge.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Create a circular card base from white cardstock using a large circle die.
- Die cut a slightly smaller circle from soft pink cardstock and adhere it to the centre of the card base.
- Die cut the decorative border from gold cardstock and layer it around the pink circle to create the “icing” effect.
- Die cut the floral elements from bright pink, aqua, and light green cardstock.
- Add shading and dimension to the flowers using blending brushes or ink if desired.
- Arrange the flowers around the cake design, clustering them toward opposite corners for balance.
- Use the alphabet dies included in the bundle to create the sentiment: “I CAME FOR THE CAKE”
- Adhere the letters carefully to the centre of the card, spacing them evenly for a bold graphic look.
- Finish the card with foam adhesive behind some of the floral elements for added dimension.
The finished result feels playful, modern, and just the right amount of mischievous!
