Card Inspiration – Minimalist Bloom Elegance

For today’s project, I wanted to let the flower shine with crisp detail and subtle texture. This is one of those cards where less really is more, and the press plate does most of the talking for you!
Step-by-step instructions
- Create the card base and panel
- Cut a side-folding A2 card base from soft pink cardstock.
- Trim a second panel of the same pink cardstock slightly smaller than the card front and set aside. This will give subtle tone-on-tone layering.
- Press the floral panel
- Use the Minimalist Flower Press Plate with your preferred press system and a piece of white cardstock.
- Run it through your machine to create the detailed pressed floral design.
- Colour the flowers
- Using OLO markers (or your favourite alcohol markers), colour the flowers in three main colour families: yellow, lilac and aqua/blue.
- Keep each flower to a single colour family for a cohesive look, using lighter shades towards the tips of the petals and deeper tones at the base to create dimension.
- Add simple shading to the centres and darken the dots so they really pop against the petals.
- Fussy-cut the floral cluster
- Carefully cut around the outer edge of the floral design, leaving a small white border.
- Gently shape the cut piece with your hands to give it a little natural curve and movement.
- Add splatter and texture
- Lightly splatter the coloured floral piece and the smaller pink panel with diluted white paint or ink to add soft texture.
- Allow everything to dry completely before assembling.
- Build the background layers
- Adhere the smaller pink panel to the card base with foam tape to create a raised, tone-on-tone background.
- Position the fussy-cut floral cluster over the panel, letting some petals hang slightly over the edges for a full, overflowing look. Adhere with strong foam tape for good support.
- Create the sentiment
- Die cut the word “FRIEND” from white cardstock and stack two or three layers together for dimension.
- Cut a small strip of neutral cardstock and heat-emboss or stamp the “THANK YOU” sentiment in white.
- Adhere the word “FRIEND” across the centre of the floral cluster, then layer the “THANK YOU” strip over the bottom portion of the word for a clean, stacked sentiment.
- Finish with details
- Tuck a small length of twine behind the sentiment strip for a soft, textural touch.
- Add a few clear sequins or embellishments around the flowers to catch the light without overwhelming the design.
- Check that any overhanging petals are secure and trim any excess from the edges if needed.
